Honoring Rahel Zeleke
Rahel Zeleke committed suicide in July 2022 in San Francisco. Her death shocked me deeply and brought extreme sadness to my soul. I was traumatized for several days, it was the first time someone I knew had taken her life... I just could not believe it.
Rahel was Ethiopian American, an independent actress and leader on our local church. I have great memories of her because she was was there for me when I needed the most in 2018, the year I moved in to San Francisco. Her leadership, love, and kindness never made me even think she was ever depressed. She might not have known, but she impacted the life of many including mine in a positive way.
Love u Rahel, you will be truly remembered.
Among endless dreams, she once took flight,
A girl with aspirations burning bright.
To grace the stage, a star in the making,
But life's trials left her heart aching.
Through struggles vast, she fought each day,
Lonely, desperate, lost in disarray.
Anxiety gripped her, a relentless storm,
Sadness and weariness became her norm.
The Golden Gate Bridge, a witness true,
Beheld the weight she couldn't undo.
In depths of despair, she made her choice,
To silence her pain, to stifle her voice.
Africa mourns the absence now,
Her spirit gone, forever we shall bow.
The laughter silenced, the talent untold,
A tragic ending to a story once bold.
Her absence lingers, a haunting void,
Leaving hearts shattered, forever destroyed.
The stage remains empty, forever missed,
A talented soul, lost in the abyss.
May we remember her, aspirations so grand,
And learn from the sorrow that fate has planned.
Reach out to those burdened, their battles unseen,
For within their pain, a fragile soul may teem.
Let us cherish life's fragile threads,
Embrace the broken, mend what's in shreds.
In memory of the girl who once did strive,
May her legacy remind us to keep hope alive.
